an update from pastor josh

What an amazing church family you are! We re-opened our facilities and you have all been flexible and accommodating of one another. You have gathered again in person for worship, welcomed a new worship pastor and are no doubt a work in progress. Change is hard and It’s not when everything is easy when unity is tested, it’s when things get difficult when we discover how truly unified we are. I want to commend your unity, it hasn’t been easy. I want to especially thank those of you who have put aside your personal opinions about things in order to maintain unity. This is who we are!

We will continue to find the ways of Jesus during this challenging time. By the way, this is EXACTLY what we are to do according to scripture. We are to lay down our preferences for our Christian brothers and sisters. We are to practice humility, deference and love. This scripture pretty much sums it up for me. “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3

I want to take this time and let you know that in accordance with our facility manager’s direction and staff agreement, we will now be asking everyone to wear a face covering at all of our Sunday worship services. This was not an easy decision but we feel the right one for this time. Once again, this is clearly not a matter to break fellowship over, but another opportunity to come together. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Let me share a short story with you. Twenty years ago a family in a church I was pastoring had pre-mature twin girls and I of course as a pastor wanted to be there with them. I made the drive from Central Oregon to Eugene, traveled to the hospital, happily scrubbed in at the NICU and could not wait to see these beautiful new children. But it required 5 hours of driving, scrubbing in at the NICU, and they finally let me in! I’ll never forget that day. It was totally worth it. Let me ask you a provocative question. How much is it worth to you to worship with your church family? I think it’s worth being inconvenienced for an hour wearing a face covering to participate in corporate worship and to be together with our church family. The relationship ALWAYS supersedes the policies and procedures.

We will continue to have three services at 8, 9:30 and 11:00 am and will have face coverings available in case you forget yours. We will also maintain our 10 AM facebook live online experience. Once again, thank you so much for your unity and love for one another. I am looking forward to being together.
